Shawlands Ceremony Trip
On Thursday October 10, P7 children from Shawlands Primary School went to the City Chambers for an amazing event called the Queen’s Baton Ceremony.
We weren’t the only school there, Hillhead Primary were also at the ceremony. St Brides school choir came to sing, Hillhead primary and us, Shawlands primary, were holding the flags of the 70 Commonwealth countries.
We were all in school by 8:30 am. The bus left at 8:45 am we arrived there at about 9:00 am. We walked up the amazing marble stairs to get to the flag room. A couple of minutes later we collected our flags. I was holding the Sri Lankan flag, which was really tall. We had to hold it on our right shoulder. Some people were holding the flags inside the building and some outside, I was inside.
After a while the bagpipes started playing as the musician walked Through the doors and the Lord Provost walked in with the baton. Both schools cheered.
Next we went back up the marble stairs to the main room and heard a few amazing speeches by the Lord Provost, Humza Yousaf and a few others. Then St Brides Primary School sang a few nice calm songs. The adults were eating bacon rolls, muffins and a few other treats but unfortunately we weren’t allowed any but then we went to the flag room, put our flags back and ate chocolate and juice.
That day will never be forgotten it was such an amazing event. I’m proud to be part of history.
