Notre Dame Fundraising
The sixth year pupils of Notre Dame High School came up with unique and innovative ways to raise funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust charity; a charity that is close to all of their hearts. Last month, from the 23rd to the 26th September 2013, sixth years were hosts of a 'Fun Week' in which a number of activities were run. The sixth years worked exceptionally hard to make the fun week an enjoyable and memorable week whilst especially keeping in mind a fellow 6th year pupil who recently underwent treatment after being diagnosed with cancer. The number of young adults being diagnosed with cancer is on the rise and the sixth year of Notre Dame have the desire to raise awareness to all ages of such a serious and sensitive issue.
We started off the week by selling badges and wristbands designed with the Teenage Cancer Trust logo, whilst some S6 girls created beautiful looks with Henna Hand Painting. In the following days, a Nail Bar, Face Painting and Bake Sale were organised which were all highly successful and well planned activities. We ended a fantastic week with a Balloon Release, which many of the younger pupils thoroughly enjoyed. Many thanks to Air Products who very kindly supported the helium for the balloons and Glasgow Airport Staff for their help and advice – we really appreciated their support. With the dedication and hard work of all sixth years, and with the massive support of all Notre Dame pupils including the S4 XL class who organised a staff coffee morning, we managed to raise over £850.
Sixth year students hope that this event has raised awareness of the Teenage Cancer Trust charity and their admirable work, and they hope to continue this on with a Hint of Pink Day for Breast Cancer Awareness in October.
