Triumph for Tennant
At the start of our new session I decided I would like to run for house captain. My house is Tennant, (named after David Tennant) our houses are named after famous Scots. We have eight houses. The other person running for Tennant captain was a boy called Ailans who was vice-captain last year in Primary six, although I didn’t run for vice-captain.
Last year the speeches weren’t particularly good! So this year if you were up for the challenge of running for house captain or vice-captain you would have to prepare a speech. I was going to prepare a speech anyway, so all that meant to me was more competition.
I created the speech by myself. Once I was finished I showed my mum. She checked for any mistakes and then gave me the go ahead. Then my mum printed it off for me so I could practise it over the coming days.
All I could do was rehearse and wait for the hyped house meeting in which we elect our house captains and vice-captains! It was the anticipated day and before I went over last minute practices. A few hours later we were at our house meeting rooms and I was standing ready to perform my speech.
It went well but next it was the turn of Ailans. Ailans was finished and it was time to vote. It was an anonymous vote – we closed our eyes… I did it – I was my house’s captain. I am now looking forward to the responsibilities that house captain’s face and hope to be a great house captain.
