Artic Monkeys

Arctic Monkeys After the gig was postponed I was even more excited for it. It had been two years since I had seen them in the SECC and I couldn’t wait to be there again- singing to the old classics and jumping with a crowd of people who loved them just as much as I did.

Arctic Monkeys themselves were incredible and the crowd was full of really genuine people who were just there to enjoy the show and, although the gig itself was amazing, to me, the venue was a letdown.

Everyone had been waiting patiently for the Hydro’s opening and since Rod Stewart on the 30th of September it has been getting good reviews, but for me it’s not doing a thing: Advertisements everywhere, over-priced cloakroom tickets and drinks, not to mention the ridiculously sized stage in comparison to the venue.

Everything seemed to be there for show, like the Hydro was built for profit and attraction only, rather than being built to increase people’s enjoyment at gigs. To me, that’s what any venue should be built for.

Despite it being dreadfully disorganised, in terms of getting people out afterwards, it somehow managed to sink further into the category of a bad venue by refusing anyone a glass of water because the bars had shut. The gig was fantastic and I would go again and again but the new SSE Hydro is not worth the money, nor the popularity it’s getting.
