St Annes sing for Unicef
Glasgow school children, along with Vaccines guitarist Freddie Cowan, release UNICEF song to celebrate the Commonwealth Games. Let The Games Begin is a song written and sung by children from the East End of Glasgow as a message of hope and encouragement to all the athletes who will be attending this summer’s Commonwealth Games.
It has already caught the imagination of hundreds of pupils in the city, not only because of its inspiring message but because the song has been written and recorded with the help of band members from global superstars The Vaccines, Franz Ferdinand and Frightened Rabbit.
On Wednesday, East 40, a group of singers from St Anne’s primary and other schools from St Mungo’s Learning Community will perform the song with Freddie Cowan, lead guitarist of The Vaccines, who recently produced the track at his studio in New York. Let the Games Begin is now available on iTunes with 76p of the £1.29p download cost going directly to UNICEF to support its work to Put Children First around the world.
UNICEF, the world’s leading children’s organisation, and the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games are working together to save and change children’s lives in Scotland and throughout the Commonwealth. It is a unique opportunity that will harness the power of sport to every child in Scotland and children in every Commonwealth country.
